Finding Certainty in an Uncertain World

Finding Certainty in an Uncertain World

August 11, 2026

Uncertainty…

All of us experience it. Some more than others.

A lot of factors go into determining how often you experience uncertainty, but know this: you are not alone.

Having accepted that fact, the question to ask oneself is, how do I deal with it and live with a calm and peaceful mind?

When it comes to investments, there will always be uncertainty. How one deals with it is to remain focused on what you wish to achieve.

My clients can rely on me to provide them with guidance and direction, explain why specific uncertainties arise, and determine what our response should be to them.

My role, I like to say, is that of a financial consigliere.

My clients do not have me assist them so I can be their “yes” man. No. They hire me because they can count on me, and on my 33 years of advisory experience, to tell them the truth.

My responsibility is to provide proper guidance in all the areas I can cover and, for those I cannot, connect them with a trusted network of colleagues who can assist them.

It works, and it works very well.

The challenge with uncertainty is that many of us are prone to think the worst.

You go to the doctor and something is noted that requires further scrutiny. Of course, if you are like most people, you think, “Great, it’s all over.”

Most of the time, it isn’t, and we have blown up the situation into something much bigger than it needed to be.

Areas of uncertainty, such as politics, the economy, taxes, and the effects of inflation, are beyond our control.

The best thing we can do is manage our own personal financial lives and focus on what is most important: you and your family, if you have one.

Don’t use other individuals as your benchmark for what success, or lack of success, looks like.

Strive to be the best version of yourself.

You do that, and that is one certainty no one can change unless you allow them to.

I find, for myself, as I grow older, that there are fewer things I need and that my primary focus should be on my health, my relationships, my business, and my relationship with God.

Simplicity is an objective. A calm and peaceful life is another.

In doing so, I have fewer uncertainties in life and the certainty that I have created a life worth living.

The image attached to this blog post is my 5 year old grandson, soon to be 6. One of my goals is to be a major influence in his life and assist him in preparing for and knowing how to deal with the uncertainties of life. What to focus on, and what not to focus on. Of this, I am certain.
